Some Basic Facts About Bowel Cancer

Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK today. Although more than 7 in 10 of the people diagnosed with bowel cancer are aged 65 and over, bowel cancer can affect anyone at any age. Bowel cancer affects around 1 in 20 women and 1 in 16 men in the UK every year, and is the second biggest cause of cancer deaths. Despite these shocking statistics, at least one in 4 people is completely unaware of the disease, or the symptoms associated with it. The reasons for this are not always clear, but we do know that we often shy away from talking openly about bowels and bottoms, even to our doctor. The aim of the Lives & Times book is to raise awareness about bowel cancer and funds for the Beating Bowel Cancer charity.
